Our Story
The story of Hotel Parkside is more than just the tale of a business—it is a testament to the enduring power of hope, the ripple effects of kindness, and the transformative potential of education and family. At its heart lies the inspiring journey of Mr. Sher Bahadur Pariyar, a man who rose from humble beginnings to create a legacy of empowerment and sustainable development for his community.
The Early Struggles: A Dream Born from Adversity
In 1998, Sher Bahadur Pariyar was a young boy with big dreams but limited means. Born into a family where resources were scarce, Sher’s father, an Indian Army soldier, believed that education was a luxury they could not afford. Determined to break free from the cycle of poverty, Sher took matters into his own hands. He began working at Sauraha Jungle Lodge, not for money, but for food and the chance to continue his schooling.
Life was far from easy. Sher’s days were long and grueling, balancing work and studies. Yet, his unwavering determination caught the attention of a German family visiting the lodge. Moved by his story, they saw in Sher a spark of potential that deserved to be nurtured. A few weeks after their meeting, Sher received a letter that would change his life forever—an offer to support his education.
A New Chapter: The Gift of Education
With the German family’s support, Sher moved to Kathmandu, where he enrolled in a private school. The transition was challenging. Coming from a government school where most subjects were taught in Nepali, Sher struggled with the English-medium curriculum. But he refused to give up. Through sheer hard work and perseverance, he not only caught up with his peers but excelled academically within a year.
This was just the beginning. Sher’s thirst for knowledge led him to Delhi, where he pursued higher studies in Economics and Political Science, earned a diploma in Export/Import and Tourism, and mastered the German language. His education opened doors to opportunities abroad, including training and work at the prestigious Maritim Park Hotel in Mannheim, Germany. Yet, despite the allure of a life overseas, Sher’s heart remained rooted in Nepal.
Returning Home: Building a Legacy
Sher’s dream was never just about personal success—it was about uplifting his family and community. In 2000, he returned to Nepal and, together with his family, established Hotel Parkside in Chitwan. What began as a modest 12-room hotel has since grown into a thriving 27-room establishment, complete with modern amenities like air conditioning, a swimming pool, and plans for a conference-ready restaurant.
The hotel is a true family endeavor. Sher’s brother, Shir Lal Pariyar, oversees daily operations, ensuring every guest experiences the warmth of Nepali hospitality. Hom Bahadur Pariyar, another brother, manages online marketing and sales, bringing the hotel’s story to a global audience. Together, they have built a reputation for excellence, blending traditional values with modern comforts.
Beyond Business: Green Society Nepal
The Pariyar family’s vision extended far beyond the walls of Hotel Parkside. In 2009, they founded Green Society Nepal, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development and sustainable tourism. Through this initiative, they have touched countless lives, creating opportunities for education, employment, and empowerment.
